Labiaplasty (Labia Rejuvenation)

Female anatomy of the genitalia: The external genitalia of females are collectively referred to as vulvo-vaginal complex, which constitues the labia majora, the labia minora, the clitoris, the urethra, and the vagina. In many women the labia are large on both or one side. Most commonly one or both lips of labia minora may get elongated and may project out of the labia majora. This makes them unsightly and also becomes a source of embarrassment with their sexual partner and causes loss of self-esteem. Age, childbirth, hormones, sexual intercourse can cause labia to become enlarge, or it can occur naturally. Besides the self esteem, large labia can cause chronic irritation and infection in the genital areas.
Labiaplasty is generally performed as Labia Minora surgery, on the inner lips, the skin that covers the clitoris and vaginal opening. It surgically reshapes or reduces the external appearance of the vagina, normalize the labia in size and symmetrical on both sides and restore them to their normal cosmetic status. There are various grounds why women labioplasty. The most important one is for enhance a woman's vaginal appearance, enhancing sexual pleasure, reducing pain during intercourse, reducing emotional and physical discomfort from having enlarged labia and gaining a boost in self-esteem. Labiaplasty (also labioplasty) is also recommended in the correction of labial hypertrophy also. Labiaplasty corrections include congenital defects and congenital abnormalities, such as vaginal atresia (i.e. absence of vaginal passage), Mullerian agenesis (in which uterus and fallopian tubes are malformed) or intersex conditions (male and female sexual characteristics in one person). Labiaplasty surgery does not harm the vagina or hymen.

Vulvar vestibular papillomatosis is regarded as an anatomical variant of the vulva. It is an uncommon benign condition. Sometimes this condition is misinterpreted as warts. But the main difference is no koilocytes will be seen in vulvar papillomatosis and the presence of finger-like projections of loosely arranged subdermal tissue with blood vessels and are covered by normal mucosal epithelium. Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is not a cause of vestibular papillomatosis, but the role of HPV infection in individual cases of vulvar papillomatosis and vulvar vestibulitis syndrome is still unclear

In labiaplasty, the surgeon cuts down the excess tissue by removing a wedge shaped section and removing the top epithelium of labia, while holding the underlying tissue intact. Labiaplasty can also be performed on the Labia Majora. For the outer lips, liposuction is used to reduce appearance and in more extreme cases, these genital lips are surgically trimmed. Laser reduction labiaplasty is another option used to sculpt elongated or unequal labial minora and achieve an enhanced labia appearance. Lasers can help reduce bleeding. Augmentation Labiaplasty involves harvesting fat from other areas of the body and reinjecting it into the labia, to provide an enhanced and youthful appearance to the vagina. The labiaplasty results are permanent. But the labia can become enlarged again through sexual activity and future childbirth.
