Granulomas can form within tissue with some of the fillers. Removal of permanent filler would be extremely difficult.

Natural permanent fillers:

Fat injection: Individual's own fat cells are used for beauty enhancement. It fills the defects and safe option. Results are permanent. Fat is harvested by liposuction using special technique and processed to remove tissue debris and injected as beads in layers to increase the viability. This method avoids the chance of allergic reactions and tissue rejection. Works well for hollow under eyes, deep lines and sunken cheeks.

Tissue grafts: Dermafat, dermis, fascia and muscle are viable permanent fillers. They are most useful in lip augmentation. It is not non surgical but the results are permament which makes this processt an attractive one. Grafts can be harvested from locations where the incisions can be well hidden.

Synthetic permanent fillers:

Filler injections are a cosmetic treatment used to smooth wrinkles or pitted scars in the skin, usually on the face. They are also used to make the lips fuller. This usually goes away over time.

Filler injections are cosmetic treatments that are used for aesthetic purposes. Chemicals are injected to various smaller areas of the body, usually the face to blow up these areas. Injected fillers are primarily used to improve the appearance of the skins texture. Facial fillers rejuvenate facial skin by reducing or eliminating wrinkles, raising scar depressions, enhancing lips and replacing soft-tissue volume loss through facial injections. It can also be used to give a fuller, more sensuous look to the lips. Fillers are not usually sufficient for reducing severe surface wrinkles on the face, such as multiple vertical lipstick lines that form around the mouth.

There are two types of filler injections, one is permanent or semi-permanent and the other is temporary. Permanent or semi-permanent filler injections include Radiesse and Sculptra. The two categories of temporary injectable fillers are collagen and hyaluronic acid. Semi-permanent or Permanent injectable fillers are longer lasting alternatives to the temporary hyaluronic acids or collagen fillers. Even though permanent injectable fillers promise a more lasting effect, it is avoided by most health care providers due to the unknown side effects and risks. Collagen was the only product available for lip enhancement; now there are many products that are more stable, long-lasting and bodily neutral. Collagen and other injectable wrinkle fillers give skin a plumper, smoother appearance. Collagen injections replenish the skin's natural collagen. It supplements collagen, and help to smoothen facial lines and some types of scars. The natural beauty of your skin is enhanced as the contour is restored.

DermaLive/DermaDeep, are a combination of hyaluronic acid and acrylic hydrogel. DermaLive is used for augmenting lips and smoothing out deep wrinkles. DermaDeep is very effective on nasolabial folds and for chin and cheek augmentation.

Dermal fillers have been called liquid facelifts because they offer many of the benefits of a surgical facelift without the downtime excess sagging skin, these soft tissue fillers can add more volume and provide immediate results at a lower cost than surgery. These treatments aren't permanent, however, and they must be repeated and maintained. Some facial fillers are used in conjunction with other skin rejuvenation treatments such as injections of botulinum toxin. Various types of facial injections are available; each is designed with one or several purposes, such as wrinkle reduction and lip augmentation. A qualified doctor can determine which facial filler will provide optimal and rejuvenating results. In some patients the goal of a non surgical Liquid Face Lift will be to lift the entire face, where as in others, the goal is to lift or contour specific facial features. Restylane injections can lift and contour facial features. A liquid facelift places large amounts of fillers into the face. Liquid face lifts camouflage the effects of aging without exact anatomical repositioning of aging tissues. The results are temporary but they are excellent methods of accomplishing rapid, minimal down time corrections with relatively low risk.

Lip enhancement is done with dermal fillers and is one of the cosmetic procedures that require more artistry than science. Lip enhancement uses the same tools and products for wrinkle treatment with dermal fillers. A biocompatible substance like hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler is injected strategically into areas in and around the lips. Lip enhancement offer you a more defined smile; avoids lipstick bleeding; enhances pout; and makes you look much younger. Lip enhancements falls into two categories: Surgical implants and non-surgical lip injections. Lip injection can give volume to the lips. Implants give a more subtly defined lip. Lip augmentation and lip enhancement is commonly achieved by Restylane lip fillers or Juvederm, or lip collagen which offer lip plumping through lip injections. These injections normally last from between 4 months and a year. The cost of lip enhancements vary greatly. Permanent lip augmentation can typically be achieved using a lip implant. Restylane, a non-animal, clear gel which is closely related to the hyaluronic acid found naturally in the body. While Juvederm is extremely chemically close to Restylane; many surgeons report the former is slightly smoother to inject.

Some common and minor side effects include: Redness, itching and swelling at the injection sites, bruising.Risk of getting an uneven result, disproportionate lips, or hard lumps when performed by a non-skilled technician.

A newer class of fillers is based on microsphere technology. Microspheres are tiny round particles of solid material that are uniform in size. These products are used for volume replacement and for deep facial wrinkles. They are not approved for use in the lips. Possible complications include: Infection, bleeding or bruising, allergic reaction, such as rash, hives, swelling, or flu-like symptoms.
