Eyebrow lift:

Eyebrows and eyelashes have an important contribution to facial symmetry and presentation of self to others. Eyebrows frame the eyes and are one of the first facial structures we look at as a society. A person without eyebrows or eyelashes may feel very embarrassed about one's own appearance.
Eyebrows and eyelashes can be lost in a variety of ways: Physical trauma due to thermal, chemical or electrical burns, systemic or local disease with hair loss, congenital inability to grow, eyebrow reshaping that result in permanent loss of eyebrows, burns, radiation therapy, chemotherapy or surgical removal of tumor. The degree of eyebrow loss may vary from complete to partial; the degree of loss may be a consideration in selection of the restoration procedure. Some patients have no eyebrow/eyelash loss, but seek eyebrow/eyelash enhancement for cosmetic reasons. Eyebrow restoration was originally intended for burn victims and patients of terminal illnesses preventing hair from growing in the eyebrow region. Eyebrow restoration surgeries have since evolved into a cosmetic procedure favored by woman wishing to have perfect eyebrows.

The purpose of hair transplantation of the eyebrow is to recreate the eyebrow. Patient and physician must work together to outline the eyebrow area to conform to the natural symmetry of the patient's face. Depending on the size of the area to be transplanted, more than one transplant session may be required.

Eyebrow restoration is similar to hair transplant procedures performed on the scalp and the transplanted hair is permanent. Since eyebrows have unique properties, eyebrow transplants differ from hair transplants in a number of important ways. Eyebrow restoration is individually designed based on the facial type, facial features, and the desire of the person. The factors considered by an experienced physician includes; the arch shape, appropriate thickness of hair, space between brows, and brow length. Eyebrow and/or eyelash restoration procedure is a minimally invasive micro surgical procedure.

A number of procedures are available for restoration of all or part of the eyebrow.
  • Micrografts or single hairs from a donor area transplanted to the eyebrow. A reconstructive flap or graft procedure that brings a strip of hair from another site to the eyebrow.
  • Transplants: A strip of hair bearing skin and subcutaneous tissue can be removed from a donor area on the scalp and grafted into the surgically prepared eyebrow site.
  • Scalp to eyebrow pedicle flaps: A strip of hair bearing skin and subcutaneous tissue is raised from the temple area just in front of the ear, with its blood supply attached. This type of donor graft attached to a blood supply is called a pedicle flap. This procedure is less commonly used.
  • An important stimulant of eyebrow regrowth comes in the form of Rogaine. Rogaine helps dormant hair follicles again become active.
  • Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) also takes grafts from the back and sides of the patient's head individually. Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a hair transplant technique in which follicular units are removed directly from the donor area. The grafts are then transplanted into areas where the patient desires more hair to create a natural looking hair line and/or add density to areas of thinning. The key difference of follicular unit extraction from the traditional FUT hair replacement procedures is follicular units are extracted directly from the scalp and follicles are microscopically dissected from a strip that has already been removed in FUT. Individual follicular unit grafts are excised one at a time using a tiny one millimeter in diameter instrument during the Follicular Unit Extraction or FUE hair transplant procedure, a small circular incision in the skin around the follicular unit. The graft is then extracted directly from the scalp. The small opening left behind after the follicle unit is extracted heals in a few days. This method of hair transplantation using follicular unit transplantation DOES NOT involve: grafts, invasive scar-leaving strip surgery, flaps and scalp reductions, synthetic fiber implants.
A purpose of transplantation of hair to the eyebrow is to recreate the eyebrow in a natural contour. Patient and physician must work together to outline the eyebrow area to conform to the natural symmetry of the patient's face. Depending on the size of the area to be transplanted, more than one transplant session may be required; two or more sessions several months apart are common.

Donor hair for the transplant is taken from a site that furnishes finer rather than coarser hair; finer hair is a better match for eyebrow hair. Donor hair is transplanted as micrografts of one to two hairs. Each graft is placed into an incision prepared for it. The use of single hairs or micrografts permits meticulous adherence to the eyebrow.

Eyelash hair restoration: Transplantation is the only procedure which can restore eyelash hair. Thedonor hair for transplantation must be finer rather than coarser.

Itching is a common and troublesome postoperative complication. Scratcheds due to itching can cause risk of dislodging the hair grafts and initiating infection. Pain and possibly swelling is reported in some patients. Bruising after the surgery is common and it may take a week or more resolve. Eyebrow hair transplantation is a safe and cosmetically elegant procedure. But there are a number of things to be kept in mind before undergoing this type of hair restoration. Hair transplants from scalp would need periodical trimming, which can result in a cut end which is not as delicate as the fine tipped end. Wounds at the incision site contract while healing that may slightly change their flat orientation and result in a slightly elevated eyebrow hair.

Post Operative Care: An antibiotic ointment should be applied to the brow to help soften if any crusts

Eyebrow Implants

Eyebrow implants are the newest genre in the segment of cosmetic surgery. An eyebrow implant is not done unless it is necessary, like most branches of cosmetic surgeries. The entire process is also time consuming, and it is a job of great expertise and is also pretty money consuming. Many clinics offer an eyebrow implant at a very lucrative price. Eyebrow implants offer you the right sized eyebrows. This is a permanent grafting of false lashes.

Waxing is a technique regularly used to groom the eyebrows. Heated wax is applied to the undesired eyebrow hairs. Burns or irritations are common at the eyebrows due to the hot wax generally used in the waxing process. Eyebrow waxing requires more care since the eyes are a sensitive part of the human body. Burns are more common in this area due to the skin's sensitivity.
