Browplasty:

A perfect shape of eyebrows is an arch with peak along temporal iris limbus. Eyebrow position is one of the most prominent features in facial expressions. Properly aligned brows transmit a youthful looking face. A forehead lift, known by the names browlift or browplasty, is a cosmetic eye surgery which can elevate a drooping eyebrow that may obstruct vision or to remove the deep worry lines that are seen on the forehead. A brow lift surgery can modify facial expressions well compared to any other eye plastic surgery procedure.
The forehead and eyebrow region often show noticeable signs of aging. Due to age and gravity, forehead muscles that cause smoothness in the area become loose and weak. Loosening of these structures may cause drooping eyebrows, eyelid hooding, forehead wrinkles, and frown lines. The structures responsible for these issues are tightened or altered in an eyebrow surgery to smooth the forehead, raise the upper eyebrows, and improve frown lines. Patients normally request rejuvenation surgery of forehead since the area is the major focal and expression point of the upper face, despite of the eyes. Brow rejuvenation restores a more youthful, refreshed look to the brows and improves the horizontal lines and furrows.

Multiple surgical approaches are followed in browlift. In direct brow lift oval shaped skin and muscle just above the eyebrows are removed. The incisions made are well hidden within the brow hair. This technique neither addresses wrinkles nor lines within the forehead nor shows prominent surgical scars. It is recommended for older patients or for men with thick eyebrow hair and male pattern baldness. A forehead surgery may be performed alone, or in conjunction with other procedures, such as facelift, or eyelid surgery. A mid-forehead lift is meant for patients older than 65 who have heavy sagging eyebrows and the deepest forehead wrinkles. A coronal forehead lift involves an ear incision across the forehead and elevating the entire forehead and brow. The most common technique used currently is called an endoscopic brow lift which involves the use of a surgical telescope to elevate the brows and smooth forehead wrinkles through small incisions made behind the hairline. Endotine Brow Lift procedure is a recent alternative to the traditional forehead lift. In Endotine Brow Lift a single incision is made along the upper eyelid of each eye and a forehead implant is then secured and the incision is finely sutured.

Complications: When the forehead lift is performed by a well trained surgeon the complications are nill or minor. In rare conditions, the process may damage the nerves that control eyebrow and forehead movements. Hair loss along the scar edges may be seen when an incision is made through the hairline. Like any other surgical procedure, infection and bleeding are possible.

Endoscopic forehead procedures cost about as much as a traditional brow lift. But endoscopic surgery may be considered a more economical option due to its shorter recovery time. The endoscopic technique should also require less follow-up care, and fewer medications to control post-operative discomfort.
